Sourdough Breadsticks

Back To Blog
Bunch of sourdough breadsticks with seeds on blue background. Close-up.

These very easy and super tasty breadsticks are perfect for any table.

They have honey, olive oil and sourdough starter and you can use different flour.

They go perfectly with any dips as they are neutral in taste.

I have used black sesame seeds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, chilli and sea salt.

I must say a huge Thank You to my lovely friend Alexandra, who introduced me to this recipe.

We visited her and her partner in their lovely Farm House and those crunchy and flavoursome breadsticks went so well with the red wine and cheeses that accompanied our long evenings filled with laughter and endless conversations.

I changed the recipe slightly as I used more olive oil and added chilli and seeds, but the base is the same and I wouldn’t do anything too different.

I hope we will be able to visit them soon again and have walks near the river, have picnics and bake more sourdough delicious breads, focaccia, pizzas…

Alexandra is a keen sourdough baker and true inspiration.

It is so special to have friends that give you positive energy, make you smile and make you happy by just sitting next to you.

We appreciate those moments now more than ever.

Every time I make those breadsticks I will remember the lovely hours we have had and will dream for the next time we meet again.

Here is the recipe and I hope you will like them as much as we do.

Ingredients:

  • 500g Active Starter
  • 250g Flour
  • 60g olive oil
  • 10g salt
  • 50g honey

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and leave to proof in a warm place for 3-4 hours, till it’s doubled in size.

Deflate the dough by gently kneading it, and with the dough scraper cut even pieces, shaping them into balls.

Cover them with a cotton towel and roll each one on a silicon sheet till very thin and even.

Spread the seeds if you are using any and run the rolling pin over a few times by pressing.

Cut strips using a pizza cutter or any other tool that you prefer.

Bake at 180-190 degrees till golden.

Leave to cool  completely on a cooling rack.

Enjoy!

Yours,

Yana
